In case you missed this news over the summer that we shared: Last winter Megann was nominated by CHS Teacher Jennifer Leckrone and Superintendent Kowalski to serve on the Michigan Department of Education Student Advisory Council. Once nominated, Megann went through a rigorous application process. Megann was accepted as a new member of the MDE Student Advisory Council for the 2023-2024 school year! We are so proud of you Megann. Thank you for representing our district and student voices, especially students from small and rural schools!

We were so excited to welcome Josh Englehart, Health Educator, from the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency. Today he spoke with our 8th graders on a very important topic. Mr. Englehart, an experienced presenter, engaged our students with a presentation on the dangers and the consequences of vaping. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions. Colon Community Schools continues to recognize the dangers of vaping on our community and our students. Our Leadership Team works daily to address these issues and seek preventative measures and feedback from the community about ways we can ensure our students are healthy, happy, and engaged in the school day. A big thanks from Superintendent Kowalski to Mrs. Wielenga and Mrs. Kevnick for partnering with Mr. Englehart on this presentation. We know the CHS team is working on additional vaping education programs in the future. You can also see Mr. Englehart present at our Magi Parent Academy on Thursday, October 19th at Colon Elementary!

Michigan law requires a school to schedule five fire drills, two tornado drills, and three school safety/security drills (e.g., lockdown, shelter in place, etc.). Today each of our buildings will have a fire drill. We document all drills and the dates of upcoming drills on our website at www.colonschools.org. Please contact the school office or central office if you have questions.
