Parents and Guardians of CCS Students,
The health and safety of our students is our top priority. To help identify students in need of additional support services, all classroom teachers will be administering brief wellness surveys to their students at least once each semester of the 2021-2022 school year.
Survey responses will be used to connect students with appropriate resources, including school health professionals (such as a school social worker or counselor), who may offer additional screening to determine specific concerns. If you have specific questions regarding the screening or the follow-up processes, please contact your child’s school and ask to speak with a school social worker.
If you do not want your child to participate in school wellness screenings, you may opt your child out, by contacting Colon Elementary School office or Colon Jr/Sr High School office on or before October 14, 2021.
Thank you for your support as we work together to educate and support your child.

The next Fresh Food Initiative in Colon is Oct. 21st.

This afternoon the rescinding of the local health department's COVID-19 order was announced. It is now the decision of each local school district on how to handle all contact tracing and quarantines except for the quarantine of a COVID positive person and their household members as noted in the first point below. The following is the protocol that Colon Community Schools will be using in handling concerns regarding COVID-19 at this time.
It remains a requirement of the Health Department that students who are displaying symptoms of COVID or have tested positive for COVID must quarantine or isolate for a minimum of 10 days from a positive test or the onset of symptoms. Other students of the same household will also need to quarantine for 10 days from the last day of contact with the COVID-positive household member.
For students who are currently quarantined due to contact tracing and are not showing any symptoms of COVID-19, it is the parent's choice to return their child to school or to keep them home throughout the current quarantine. If a parent chooses to return their child to school a negative COVID test will be required for re-entry. The school has rapid COVID tests in both building offices to support this process.
Moving forward, the district will contact trace for individuals within 6 feet, for more than 15 minutes, over a 24-hour timeframe of a COVID positive person. We will notify parents or guardians regarding the close contact of their student. We will support a parent in their decision surrounding whether to have their close contact child quarantine.
Students who remain home for quarantine and are healthy and able must attend class with their teacher(s) through Zoom and Google Classroom in order to avoid attendance and truancy concerns.
Your questions and concerns are welcomed and you may direct them to the Superintendent's office.

We have had a large increase in the number of positive COVID cases at Colon Community Schools this week. We urge you to watch for signs of illness and keep your students and family members home if any symptoms occurs until a negative COVID test is determined. The Health Department continues to urge all to wear a mask and for those who are age appropriate, to get the vaccine for COVID-19.

Picture day is tomorrow at Colon Elementary School! Check out the flyer for more information.
